Wardrobe for Your Tampa Newborn Photography Session

The arrival of a newborn is such a wonderful time. Getting to document these precious moments is truly one of my most favorite things. In our Tampa Newborn Photography, we understand the importance of creating images that are timeless. In this guide, I’ll offer some of my best tips for dressing the whole family for your upcoming newborn session!

Colors: Embracing Neutrals for Timeless Elegance

When it comes to hues, the camera loves shades of soft pinks and muted blues, mixed with sophisticated light neutrals like heather gray, creams, leather brown and white. Soft, muted tones like these work best to avoid any color casts on to the baby in your arms. Fun prints for smaller siblings are adorable and can be a cute addition, but please avoid large logos and graphics. They tend to distract the eye, and we want every bit of focus to stay on you and your sweet new baby.

Coordinating the Family

The easiest way to think about planning each outfit is with “dominant colors” and “accent colors” in mind. A dominant color is the main overall color, while an accent color has a smaller piece of visual real estate. When you’re planning each outfit, aim for each person to have a different dominant color. Then tie in and vary the accent colors with one another. The safest bet is to mix solids and patterns, and remember that solids can be made more interesting with textures and layers.

Dressing your Newborn

Lifestyle newborn sessions tend to be much more people-centered and not so much focused on the wardrobe. I’ll bring a few different swaddles and blankets, and a selection of headbands for little ladies. Mostly we’ll keep it simple so the focus remains on your little one. If there are any special outfits or items you might want to include, such as an heirloom blanket or accessories, it is helpful to pull them together before the session so we can make a game plan when I arrive. That said, if you don’t have a ton of specific things that you want to use, I’ll have everything we’ll need.

Choosing Footwear

This tip is my favorite one, because the answer is easy – Don’t! Since we’ll be shooting indoors I always recommend that the entire family goes barefoot. This gives the images the most natural, lifestyle feel (and is comfy to boot!)
