They each held a small piece of paper and spoke. Sometimes separately, and sometimes with their voices joining together. Making promises about the life they would build together and of the partner they would each be for the other. Sometimes silly and sometimes solemn, but every promise speaking of love. And there, beneath a tree, standing on roots as solid as the ones they had planted together, they vowed that no matter what, they would stay rooted in each other . . . . .

Shawna and Steve are married! They had a fairytale wedding day at the always lovely Cross Creek Ranch, with a romantic lavender, soft blue and sage color palette that we couldn’t have loved any more. Every bit of this day, from the decor to Shawna’s gorgeous keyhole-backed gown and sparkly shoes, to Steve’s face when two of them first laid eyes on each other felt like a dream, and while we didn’t know Shawna as a little girl, we think it’s safe to say this must have been the wedding day that little girl imagined…and then some.
After Shawna arrived to the ceremony via the most fairytale vessel out there (which every girl knows is the horse and carriage), Steve took her hand and they stood together beneath a tree to join their lives. The two of them chose to deliver their self-written vows in a unique way, alternating speaking as they each made promises to each other (including the comedic moment where Steve promised Shawna that he would try harder not to repeat himself so often…twice). It was a ceremony that felt so incredibly personal, not only about them but also the families that were joining together that day, and as we stood back for a minute and watched it all unfold it was impossible not to feel the immense sense of love pouring out of everyone in attendance.
As always, Cross Creek Ranch knocked it out of the park (and then the ball just kept flying out of the STATE) with the most perfectly detailed decor you ever did see. Tables beneath the warm string lights were set with mismatched china and romantic centerpieces that alternated between lanterns and candles, vintage style books, and assorted accents of lace and pearls. For favors, guests were treated to a variety of homemade jams and a candy bar, and were entertained with a s’mores station and an adorable DIY photo booth.
Shawna and Steve, from the very first time we met you two, you have both been so genuine and kind, and spending your wedding day with you was an absolute honor. We hope Japan was absolutely amazing!

Sarah & Ben
