Welcoming a newborn into your life is a momentous occasion filled with joy, love, and wonder. As a trusted newborn photographer in Tampa, I understand the importance of creating timeless images that capture these precious moments. One way to infuse personality and style into your newborn photos is by selecting the perfect props. In this guide, I’ll share valuable insights on choosing props that enhance the theme and style of your newborn photo session, as well as why you may not need any.
Props: Adding a Personal Touch to Your Newborn Photos
Props can play a significant role in adding feeling to your newborn photos, so long as they have meaning for your family. They can help tell a story, add texture and create a visually appealing aesthetic. While I’m not a huge fan of adding random items just because they’re trendy, there are many different accents we can include (many of which I bring along!) Let’s talk about some favorites.
1. Wraps and Blankets
Soft, textured blankets and wraps are a staple in newborn photography. They not only keep your baby cozy but also provide a neutral backdrop for showcasing their delicate features. I bring along a myriad of options for us to pick from, and if you have some favorites in home I’m also happy to use those as well. Generally I recommend that you opt for soft pastels, earth tones, or classic neutrals. Items in this family will add warmth and softness to the images while not taking the attention away from the baby.
2. Headbands and Hats
Is there anything cuter than a headband on a tiny little babe? I think not. Headbands and hats add a touch of sweetness to your newborn’s look, and can be an adorable accessory. If you don’t have any on hand-don’t worry! I bring along a selection of delicate headbands as well as a few hats for you to choose from if these are something you’d like to incorporate.
3. A Classic Basket
Baskets and bassinets can provide a timeless element to your newborn photos. Placing your baby gently in a basket can create a sense of scale and highlight their tininess. I bring a neutral basket to every session, but if you have a different style in mind I’m always happy to include it!
4. Sentimental Heirlooms
Incorporating family heirlooms or sentimental items into the photos adds a personal touch. Whether it’s a beloved stuffed animal, a handmade quilt, or a cherished photograph, these items can tell a unique story and make the images even more special.
5. Meaningful Books and Accessories
Books, toys, or accessories that hold significance for your family can be creatively incorporated. Items like these can add a personal touch while showcasing your baby’s connection to the generations passed.
6. Keep it Simple
There is truly beauty in simplicity, and some of my favorite newborn sessions don’t include props at all. With things like Pinterest and Instagram filling our feeds it can be hard not to feel pressured into including a ton of curated details. Also, I get it, and I promise your sweet baby will photograph beautifully on his/her own without any distractions.
As a newborn photographer in Tampa, my goal is to capture the uniqueness of your baby while reflecting your family’s style and story. By selecting props that fit your vision and family history, we can create images that stand the test of time.
