the leap

We relocated to Tampa in June of 2011. We had only officially been a real live business for 6 months after making the decision to incorporate at the start of that year, and moving to a brand new place was scary. Would this work for us? Were we taking our lives in the right direction? Would our dream of being able to work side-by-side every single day ever be a real, live possibility? Questions filled our heads as we filled the back of a U-Haul, and as we made the three-hour drive to Tampa I would be lying if I said I felt confident in our decision. Because making your dreams a reality? That my friends, is some scary, uncharted territory kind of stuff.

We moved in, and started trying to plant some roots to grow our business. And while it happened slowly, our little seedling of a business did grow. Each and every couple we met who invited us into their lives and shared their love helped us to grow a little bit more. I know we say this all the time, but I really hope it hits home just how much we mean it. We TRULY wouldn’t be where we are without the 92 sweet couples who have taken a chance on us, and that is something we will always be grateful for.

For the past 3 and a half years, while our business has been growing, and then eventually getting to the point of being able to support our little family, we have been slightly guilty of not quite having as much faith in ourselves as we probably should. And for this reason, Ben has worked two nights a week as a server just so we would have some guaranteed money every month. Because what if people stopped wanting to hire us? And what if people eventually didn’t find our bad jokes as charming or like our work as much? We’ve been living a life of “what-if’s” for quite some time, because we’ve never quite understood why Sarah & Ben has grown as fast as it has. To us we’re just our quirky, corny selves, and for some very lucky reason all of you choose to want to spend a little time with us.

This may just be a measly old Thursday. But in the world of Sarah & Ben, it is the day that our dream has finally become a reality. Because we’re getting rid of the what-if’s and the cants and we’re ready to see what this little adventure of ours can truly bring. Today is the very first day with Ben OFFICIALLY being full time at Sarah & Ben, with absolutely no other means of income except our little seed of a business, which with all of your support has grown into a baby-sized tree. I am sitting in our very messy office, listening to Ben click around on the keyboard as he does things like updating blog metadata and organizing contracts. And I’m so thankful for those little extra clicks. Because we’re together, making a living, just like we dreamed we could. And it may not seem like a big deal to anyone else or look very glamorous, but I’m so very thankful for every bit of it. Because it’s ours.
